The Santa Monica Mountains Before and after the Rain
The Santa Monica Mountains were devastated by wildfires in November of 2018. The Woolsey Fire burned just under 100,000 acres. About 88% of the Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation area burned.
The Santa Monica Mountains is one of our most popular scattering locations. We flew a scattering flight over the Santa Monica Mountains shortly after the fire was out. We took aerial photos of the devastating destruction.
The heavy rains from this past winter have brought new life to the Santa Monica Mountains. Just a few months later, in February 2019, we flew another scattering flight over the Santa Monica Mountains. The difference was amazing! The terrain has turned from black to green and the wildflowers are starting to bloom. Parts of the Santa Monica Mountains are even getting their own super bloom that many parts of Southern California are experiencing.
Nature is healing itself. I can’t wait to see the progress during our next scattering flight over the Santa Monica Mountains!
